Sage Geosystems, a geothermal baseload and energy storage company, is proud to announce that its CEO and co-founder Cindy Taff participated in a tech forum panel for IADC Dec Q4 on “Drilling’s Role in CCUS and Geothermal”. The panel, which took place on November 1st, 2023, featured experts from the drilling, carbon capture, and geothermal industries, who discussed the challenges and opportunities of these emerging sectors.
Cindy Taff shared her insights on how Sage Geosystems uses existing oil and gas drilling methods and technology for its geothermal and energy storage wells, which makes geothermal accessible and scalable. She explained how the company’s proprietary geothermal solution, Battery+™, enables the company to move water from one well to another, so it doesn’t have to move water through a fracture in the subsurface, which can cause high friction losses. She also highlighted how Sage harvests both pressure and heat, which allows for a higher power output.
The IADC tech forum panel was moderated by Scott Beautz with National Energy Technology Laboratory and also featured speakers from Aramco Americas, Eavor, and Fervo Energy. The panel covered topics such as the market potential and drivers of CCUS and geothermal, the technical and operational challenges and solutions, and the collaboration and innovation opportunities.
